Her azure eyes and curling blonde hair made the hearts of those around her melt. But it was her cousin, Erzulie, who caught their eyes. She was Papa Ge's lover, fitting for her, the ability to charm the hearts out of any mortal or immortal, no matter how dark they seemed. But never, would they see that the shy Goddess of Earth had caught the eyes of the free-spirited God of Water.

Agwe watched Asaka as she made a tree grow. He thought it was so wonderful what she could do for the earth. It was so beautiful. She was so beautiful...
She was standing by the water on the beach of the Jewel of the Antilles. She felt that the beach didn't have enough trees surrounding it, so she was now fixing that problem. Agwe sat on a rock nearby, letting the water lick Asaka's toes every now and then.
Suddenly, on an impulse, he decided to give her a sign. He let the water splash up to her ankles, but only very briefly. Then he pretended to be utterly engrossed in studying the rock he was holding. She giggled and let the tree stay medium sized. She raised a hand and the rock Agwe was sitting on lifted into the air. He laughed, but was actually quite frightened.
"Hey, put me down! I'm afraid of heights!!"

Looking innocent, Asaka let the rock fall with a slight crunch, as the base of the rock crumbled into the ground. She hurried to Agwe and slapped him on the shoulder, laughing, "Wimp!"
Agwe rubbed his shoulder, "And you are...?" he asked, as if challenging her.
A sudden crash caused the two to turn round and, Asaka's mouth dropped open in shock. Coming towards them was a girl - and not just any girl - a girl who could rival even Erzulie's beauty.
Her hair flowed, although short, a little ways past her elbows. Deep green, almost brown, understanding eyes met the eyes of the two awestruck Gods. Her lips curved into a graceful smiled and she nodded, "Hello, I'm Lane," she smiled at their confused looks.
"I'm a mortal," she went on hurriedly, "you haven't heard of me before. Lane's my name, Lane Brenner, and I have no clue what's going on." She sidled up to Agwe, looping an arm around his shoulders, "Would you show me around?"

Agwe blushed. "I would, but...how did you get here?"
Lane smiled sadly. "I'm afraid I don't know where 'here' is. Which is why I am asking you to show me around."
"Oh," Agwe said. "Of course. Well, right now you are in the Kingdom of the Gods. To get to Earth, you go through this water here." He signaled to the water. "So that must be how you got up here, through the water. I don't know of any other way in or out..."
"There isn't one," Asaka said, skeptical of this girl's mortality. And slightly jealous of the girl's arm around Agwe. "What did you say your name was?"
"Lane Brenner."
After a prolonged moment of silence in which Asaka circled Lane and Agwe, Lane finally spoke up.
"If you want me to leave, I can...you would just have to tell me how. I can't breathe underwater, you see."
Agwe interjected. "No! I mean, uhhmmm...well, if you don't know how you got here, maybe you're here for a reason."
Lane looked uncomfortable. She took her arm back and placed it by her side.
"What is it?" Asaka asked, taking pleasure in the girl's discomfort. She didn't know why, but the way Agwe took to her made Asaka jealous. He used to gaze at her like that. She had pretended to be oblivious.
"Oh, all right!" Lane cried. "I didn't want to tell you all right off the bat because you wouldn't accept me...I'm Papa Ge's younger sister. He was a god, but I offended Aphrodite with my looks, and they shunned me to mortality. Gabriel has asked me to come up here while he and Erzulie are on their honeymoon."
Asaka and Agwe were shocked by the part about her relation to the Demon of Death, but confused about the last part. "Gabriel?" they asked in unison.
Lane blushed, afraid to have revealed too much. "My brother. Papa Ge?'
Asaka laughed. "Gabriel?? HA!"
"Please don't tell him I told you that..." Lane murmured.
"So will you be taking his place as Demon of Death, bwa haha ha and all that?" Agwe asked.
"No," Lane said. "When I was born, they said I would be Goddess of the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars. If I was to be a Goddess, that is."

"The Goddess of the Sun, Moon and Stars?" Asaka tried to suppress a laugh. Lane looked a little offended at first, but brushed it off with a shrug.
"No," she smiled, looking pleased. "Just one. And since you two aren't being of any help, I'll explore on my own." She turned on her heel, heading away from the ocean edge and towards a narrow pathway.
Pausing at a second narrow pathway that lead along a fence line, the opposite side of the path hugging a thick patch of trees. Pulling a note from her pocket, she glanced at it then turned along the path. She made her way along the worn trail, keeping her eyes open for a second path.
Upon finding it, she removed a heavy cloak she had been given from her shoulders, allowing her pale arms to feel the ocean breeze. She removed a small, glass-handled hand brush from a pouch on her waist and dusted away the soil at her feet.
A silver shine, in the shape of a perfect circle, shone up at her and she placed the cloak on the ground over the circle. Then removing a smaller pouch from her knapsack, she lifted the cloak from the ground and tucked it into a small box, which she placed in an opening on the face of the circle.
She raised her hands above her head and repeated a small chant three times, "Com este capote e esta pedra, inspiro o mundo dos Deuses. Desperte a Deusa dentro de mim e dê-me a minha força."
Lowering her hands, a invisible winds blew her hair around her face, and a voice called out to her, so silent that she to strain to hear it. But the words were as clear as day.
"I name you Lane, Goddess of the Stars for all eternity." And in response, Lane bowed her head.
Com este capote e esta pedra, inspiro o mundo dos Deuses. Desperte a Deusa dentro de mim e dê-me a minha força.
From Portuguese to English translates to:
With this cloak and this stone, I call forth the world of the Gods. Awaken the Goddess within me and give me my strength.
Also ... Lane Brenner is a really person, she is one of my friends. So .... yeah.

Asaka and Agwe came puffing up behind Lane at that moment, as they had been chasing her. Upon hearing the voice, they stopped short.
"What was that?!?" Agwe panted. "Who was that?"
Lane smiled. "They have named me Goddess of the Stars. Now I have to find out if there is a place for me up here with you."
"Who is they?" Asaka asked. She was not particularly pleased with Lane becoming a Goddess of the Antilles. There had always been four of them. Two boys, two girls. They didn't need another. She didn't like the idea of Lane living up here with Agwe for the rest of eternity either.
"The other gods. Of other places, you know?"
Then, the wind returned, and suddenly Papa Ge, Erzulie, and another beautiful woman stood by.
"Hello, Gabriel," Lane greeted him. "Mama? Is that you...?"
"Yes, dear," the beautiful woman said in a voice that sounded like sugar. She resembled Lane, and looked slightly like Papa Ge as well. She turned to face the stunned Asaka and Agwe. "We met once when you were very little. My name is Srae Brennaen, Goddess of the Cities. Not on this island, but larger cities. With buildings." She smiled.

"My city," Srae began, "is much larger than the places you call cites here. There are large buildings, reaching to the heavens and our homes, that sway slightly in the wind. The smaller ones, almost dwarfed, contain small apartments for the people of the city. Larger buildings, you see, are made for working, and ..." Srae trailed off, looking toward her son and his new wife.
Papa Ge stood slightly behind his mother, a sign of respect for the elders of the Gods, even if their ages would never change from their desired one. He, for instance, was at age twenty, and Erzulie, two years younger. But, Lane, as she interjected, was also Erzulie's age, and apparently, was a year younger than Agwe and two years older than Asaka.
This bothered Asaka, Lane was eighteen; Agwe a year older, at nineteen forever; he be more likely to fall for a Goddess that was closer in age. Because between nineteen and sixteen, for a romance like Papa Ge and Erzulie's, which Asaka longed for, was almost impossible.

There was a long silence in which Srae looked at Asaka, Agwe, and Lane, Lane looked at Agwe, Agwe and Papa Ge exchanged glances regarding the elbow lane was resting on Agwe's shoulder, Asaka glowered at Lane and Agwe, and Erzulie watched Asaka with curiosity.
Erzulie knew that Agwe had always had feelings for Asaka, and Asaka had felt the same way, but she had never displayed such jealousy. Well, perhaps that was because Agwe had eyes only for Asaka. She decided she'd better break the silence. It was getting awkward.
"So, what did you two do while we were gone?" She directed her question toward Asaka and Agwe to show Lane that Asaka and Agwe did many things together. She knew that they were meant to be, being the Goddess of Love and all.
Asaka took a breath to answer, but Agwe interjected. "Not much," he said. "Just hung out on the beach, waited for you guys to come back..."
Asaka gritted her teeth and tried to smile. "Yeah. The most interesting thing that happened to us was Little Miss Starry Night arriving."
Erzulie smiled. "Hey, 'Saka, can I talk to you for a minute?" She led Asaka to a tree that was just out of earshot. The other's started a new conversation, something about Papa Ge's new hairstyle (it was always changing), but Erzulie had something else on her mind for her conversation with Asaka.

Asaka wondered what Erzulie could want to talk about, but as she turned the corner, Erzulie gripped her sleeve.
"Agwe is in love with you." Erzullie growled in Asaka's ear, before returning to the rest of the Gods.

Asaka caught up to her and pulled her back.
"No," she said. "Not me. It's quite obvious he's fallen for Lane."
Erzulie smiled her perfect smile. "You and Agwe were meant to be with each other. He has always loved you, and you have always loved him. You could see he felt the same way for you as you did for him, but you did not act on it. You wanted to toy with his emotions." She gave Asaka a stern look, to which Asaka looked offended, but knowing that it was true. Erzulie continued. "He, on the other hand, was too blind to understand that you could possibly love him as he loved you. Over time, he figured he might be too old for you, and felt uncomfortable with the way he felt for you. He came to me, and I told him that love has no age. I was trying to help you out. Anyways, he went right back on loving you. When Lane came around, I'm only guessing now, she was quite outright with her immediate affection for him, and he figured someone who loved him back was more worth his time that someone who didn't." She took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
"But I DO!!!" Asaka complained.

Erzulie sighed. "I know you do, but he doesn't," she said, gesturing towards Agwe, now canoodling slightly with Lane. Asaka glanced at him and then looked quickly back at Erzulie, her face flushed.
"What should I do?" she asked.
"Tell him how you feel. His feelings for her are fleeting..." and with that, Erzulie waved her hand slightly at Agwe, reminding him how he felt for Asaka, flooding him with memories.

((Psssttt. I talked to Kaeliegh. BAD news for the OOTI family reunion. )) Agwe smiled and tried to ignore Lane's questioning glance as the keen smile spread over his face. Memories flooded him and as each one became more and more pronounced, he realized what they were about. Asaka. Each memory that flooded him and spread to his fingertips reminded him more and more of his best friend. "Agwe?!" Lane shook his shoulders, "Are you alright?" "I'm fine," Agwe snapped, brushing past Lane and moving towards where Asaka and Erzulie stood. Reaching forwards, Agwe gripped Erzulie's sleeve and pulled her along a narrow cliff passage way and away from the others. They continued in this manner until Agwe reached a small door, only about five feet high, made of stone that was carved into the rock face. Opening it, he stepped inside, Erzulie having no choce but to follow. The small cave-like room was dimly lit, and Erzulie huddled closest to the door, wary in case of a quick escape if Agwe lost his temper. But instead, Agwe turned to her, eyes narrowed and a dark flamming blue. "Why?" "Becuase," Erzulie insisted, "you love her. Not Lane. That's it. Nothing more."

Agwe barked a sarcastic laugh. "I gave up on that dream long ago!"
"How long ago? Because just before Lane showed up, you seemed quite smitten with Asaka..."
"You weren't even here just before Lane showed up!!!" Agwe snapped. But Erzulie had her powers. Of course she would know. And she knew he still loved Asaka now. There was no fooling her.
Sensing that he was giving into his feelings, Erzulie smiled her most beautiful smile and walked over to Agwe, placing her hand delicately on his shoulder.
"I know you feel that all is lost, but it isn't. Nothing is ever lost, merely missing, hiding in plain sight. If you look hard enough, you will come across what it is you thought was lost forever. In this case, that would be Asaka. She still loves you, you know."
Agwe didn't know that, actually. He stared into Erzulie's deep brown eyes. She stared back into his blue ones. He caved and she led him back out the door.

Still surprised, the slightly dumbstruck Agwe followed his sister onto the sand, keeping one eyes on the now unwelcome sight before his eyes. Lane's dark green eyes met his and narrowed as she saw that his gaze was trained on Asaka.
"Hello...? Agwe...?" Lane called, bouncing towards him. She snuggled up besides him, "You're so far away," her voice was soft, and slightly seductive, Agwe had to admit to himself, as Lane gazed at him.

But he was able to easily shake Lane off when he caught Asaka's eye. It was full of sadness and she watched Lane grope all over Agwe.
"Would you cut it out???" Agwe snapped, shocking Lane off of him.
"Sorry!" Lane said, offended. She stalked off to go talk to her cousin, Gabriel, and Erzulie about their honeymoon. Agwe rushed towards Asaka. He had so much he wanted to say, and yet when he reached her, he was speechless. He rubbed his arm awkwardly.
"Hi," Asaka mumbled, turning towards the water. Agwe turned towards the trees.
"Everything you create is magnificent," they said in unison.
