They looked at each other, met eyes quickly, then Asaka turned her head, blushing. Reaching forwards, Agwe turned her head to face his.
"You're magnificent." He whispered, drawing Asaka close to him.

Her heart started pounding faster and faster as their eyes closed and their lips met. Around them, flowers were blooming and trees were perking up towards the clear blue sky, of which the water was a perfect reflection. It gently lapped the shore, humming to the beat of the lovers' hearts. From down the shore, Lane looked on, annoyed, but knowing this was a long time coming and there was nothing she could do to change it. She sighed and turned away, away from this place, towards the world from which she had come. For a moment, she longed to be back. But she wouldn't do that yet. She had always wanted her chance, ehr chance to be like her brother, powerful, strong, a Goddess.

Though now, she felt empty. There was no hope for her to become a Goddess. Her mother, she could recall Srae's exact words, telling her that she must find love. But with who now? Lane sighed, and in a whirl of the stars, disappeared from the island home and, moments later, upon an island of her own, far from the Caribbean shore.
The island was a modest size, being for only two. There was a narrow path winding along the right side of the island, which dropped into the sea in a sheer cliff. Along the left side, was a small forest, which rose steeply from the shoreline. As she looked along the path, all Lane could see now was the gate.
At the gate now, Lane took in the place she could call home. The small two story, brick home was all she needed to see now. Each window, half opened to allow the sea breeze in, was a dark red and mirrored with black shutters.
"Srae?" She called, suddenly nervous.
"Lane, my daughter," Srae greeted her daughter warmly, and smiled, not seeming to notice Lane's distraught expression.
"I can't do this!" Lane cried, "he doesn't love me! No one wants me there."
"Lane, dearest, your place in the Gods will come, but you have to go back." Srae understood, seeing the storm clouds that had been swept northwards by a warm summer breeze. "Agwe? He loves Asaka doesn't he? Of course, Lane. I said you need love to get by. Not necessarily the love of a God, but the love of a friend."
"Srae?" A voice called and the two Goddesses looked up. Framed in the doorway was a teenage boy, who smiled, his dirty blonde hair dirtier because of the dirt in it.
"Tristan?" Srae smiled, "I must introduce you to Lane, my daughter and Goddess of the Stars."
Tristan stepped forwards, and almost automatically, Srae swept from the room, leaving her daughter standing beneath the trees. Even stranger, almost as if in a trance, Tristan and Lane moved towards one another and embraced.
"You remember me don't you?" Tristan whispered, "The mortal boy in your elementary class? Who liked you? Your mother told me who you really are, and I told her that I would be happy to stay here."

"Oh," Lane said in recognition. Tristan did not miss the trembling fear in her voice. Nor the anger.
What, Lane was thinking, does my mom think I can't find love for myself?!? Well, maybe that's true...
Tristan moved away from her. She was able to get a good look at him. He was tan and muscular, but slinky at the same time. He wore beach boy cut-off shorts along with a t-shirt and an open short sleeve button down. He had flip flops on his sand-caked feet. Overall, she thought he wasn't that bad looking. He smiled, revealing perfectly white teeth. He had a nice smile. And his eyes...they were a swirl of blue, green, brown...was that gold? They were captivating.
"So," she said, breaking the silence, "my mother brought you here so that we could fall in love?"
"I guess," he said.
"Well, I don't really need to anymore, I don't want to be a Goddess." She brushed past him and went through the gates, up the garden pathway, and into the house. He followed.
"Oh, and why's that?" he asked, jogging to keep up with her fast pace. She didn't answer right away. She stopped in the main room. For a moment, she just stood in the midst of the couches and the fireplace and just stared up at the ceiling. The room was all red inside, but it wasn't dark and gloomy. It was more of a comforting red. There were paintings everywhere, a gigantic fireplace, and lots of fluffy armchairs and couches. The ceiling was dome shaped and black, with gold frames sloping upward toward a central chandelier. You could get hypnotized if you stared at it long enough. Finally, she broke out of her trance and plopped onto a deep blue and green flowered couch.
"I don't know...they didn't want me there."
His response was immediate. "So stay here." She look at him, confused, as he sat down beside her, turned towards her. "Why do you have to live there to be a Goddess? It's not like it takes away your powers..."
She mulled over that for a moment.
"This place is your home, after all. You lived her right up until the day you had to leave for school." Lane look at him quizically, wondering how he knew that. "You told me when we were younger. We used to be quite good friends, you know." As Lane looked into his eyes, it started to come back to her. All her elementary years, he had been there. He wasn't her best friend, that would be Alenia, then Gabriel, but he was the one who was there when no one would have thought she needed help. When she didn't even know she needed help.
And he is cute....
No! Agwe...
But Tristan got her to speak her feelings so freely, so openly, without her even knowing it. But Agwe...
Tristan looked away from her then, breaking their eye contact. That's when she realized she was saying more out loud than she had known. All those years he had helped her, and now. Without even knowing it...that's why he was so easy to talk to. He looked back into her eyes, wanting to know, wanting to hear what she was thinking. As their eyes met, she felt the urge to think more, to tell him more...she was startled by her own voice saying the very words she was thinking. It was weird...
Tristan looked away. "Sorry."
But also pleasant...
He looked back, smiling.

"Lane...?" Tristan whispered, "You know, I'm a God too." He stepped closer, "Your mother told me not to tell anyone, but I'm going to tell you."
"What..." Lane breathed, "I won't tell a soul."
"I'm ... I'm ... the God of Truth ... or Trust."

Lane felt her breath catch in her chest. All thoughts of Agwe were swept away. She felt like she was floating as they drew nearer to each other. Absolute trust washed over her as she admitted the truth to herself.
"I trust you," she barely whispered. She knew why Srae had brought him here. Deep down, there was something there, always, between them.

"And I trust you," Tristan whispered, simply looking into her eyes.
For a few moments, they remained that way, simply gazing into the other's eyes. Then they moved closer, their lips crashing together.
Lane felt a torrent of emotions wash over her as Tristan's arms made their way around her and held her to him. For the first time, in what felt like forever, she was happy. She wrapped her arms around Tristan's neck and closed her eyes.
((Okay ... that kiss was totally based off the one at the end of "Joy" (House MD 5x06) because I watched it last night. Wow, I have no life.))

Back on the Gods' island, everything was at peace. Asaka and Agwe were together, Erzulie and Papa Ge were together. On the New Gods' island, Lane and Tristan were together. All was well.
For the rest of eternity, the six of them ruled, with the water in harmony with the land, the love in check with the death, and when you wished upon a star you could trust that it would come true.
