Kaetara didn't really have a last name. Well, she did, when she was born. It was Norbeline, but nobody ever called her by it. Actually she never knew that many people. She considered Anakin Skywalker to be her father when she was younger, but now she was almost his age. For when Darth Vader killed Anakin's spirit, he was 25. That was how his spirit appeared. So it was kind of hard for her to think of him as her father when there was just a 10 year age difference between them. She was 15.
A rather gifted Jedi for her age, she was also very humble. She knew she was talented and strong with the Force, however, she did not ask for more than she had.
On this day, she was in town, picking up parts to repair her airspeeder. Somebody had crashed into it about a week ago and she hadn't gotten around to repairing it yet.
The Jedi Temple had been rebuilt a few years earlier in Naboo. It was built by Anakin, Luke, Leia, Han, and Mara Jade. Then they had children, who began training to be Jedi. There were also other children they had found with a high midichlorian count.
**Author's Note: Kaetara's story will be explained**
She landed Anakin's airspeeder (she was borrowing) outside a spare parts shop. People stared openly at the Jedi Emblem on the side of the ship. She pulled her hood over her head and stepped out into the sunlight, quickly stepping into the shop.
Inside, she started speaking with the salesperson in Basic, talking about the parts she ordered and what name they were under, etc.
Outside, a spirit woman named Padme Amidala bent down and picked up a discarded lighstaber. She believed that it belonged to the girl who just walked into the shop. But--the Jedi were wiped out, she thought. Qui-Gon Jin had taught her how to return from the netherworld of the Force, but she hadn't until about a week ago. She didn't know why she returned, but something had made her.
She was therefore out of the loop as to the Jedi population. She stepped into the shop the girl had just entered.
"Then it's probably under Skywalker," she heard the girl saying. "If it's not, can't you just look up the parts I ordered and see--"
"Yeah, yeah, it's under Skywalker, I'll get it," the man behind the counter said. Then he disappeared into a very cluttered back area.
Padme's heart had stopped when she heard the word "Skywalker" and had just started beating again. She was very confused. She stepped closer to the girl and tapped her on the shoulder.
Kaetara turned to face Padme. "Is this yours?" Padme asked her.
Kaetara's face lit up. "Oh my gosh, thank you!!" she said greatfully, taking the energy weapon.
"Um...you're a Jedi?" Padme asked.
Kaetara blushed. "Not yet, no." That was her humble side coming through, showing that she didn't want anything before it was time.
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't help hearing you mention the name Skywalker..."
"My Jedi Master," Kaetara said. She studied the woman's face. It looked worried, nervous. "What is it?"
"I--um..." she trailed off as the man came back with Kaetara's parts. Kaetara handed him a sum of money and took the bundle of parts. She turned to Padme.
"What's your name?" she asked.
"Padme...Padme Amidala," Padme replied.
"I'm Kaetara. You know my master?" When Padme just continued to look uncomfortable, she said, "Let's talk." Then she walked outside, placed the parts in the airspeeder, and slipped out of her robe. She then put that in the ship as well, closed the hood, and locked it up. Padme stood by silently. "Let's go get something to drink," she suggested, and then she and Padme began walking down the crowded street.
"What is your master's first name?" Padme asked after a few moments of silence.
"Anakin," Kaetara responded, noticing the shocked and pained expression that came over Padme's face. "Is that the one you know?"
Padme nodded. They had reached a diner, and stepped inside. They sat down in a booth and placed their orders.
"He's not...you know...Darth Vader anymore," Kaetara said, whispering the "Darth Vader" part.
"What happened?" Padme asked. "Start from the beginning. How did he come to be your Jedi Master?"
Kaetara took a deep breath and began her story. "Well, my mother was a young girl before the Clone Wars. She was very strong with the Force, but she didn't want to be a Jedi. She wanted to be a Sith. She knew the Chancellor was a Sith Lord, and she convinced him to train her. She was a side project for him, as there were always only two Sith. A master and an apprentice. Count Dooku was his apprentice at the time. My mother became very powerful. During the Clone Wars, she fell in love with someone who was very against the war, and very agianst the Sith. I never even knew who he was. They had me, and of course the Emperor, as he was then called, knew about it, and killed my mother and my father.
However, he knew I could be very powerful, like my mother. He kept me alive and handed me off to his new apprentice, Darth Vader, or Anakin. Anakin told me that he'd always wanted a child, but his wife died before giving birth, and he loved me like his own. He was supposed to be training me with the ways of the Sith, but he said he didn't want to curse me the way he had been cursed. He taught me the ways of the Sith, yes. He taught me how they were bad. I had to know them, though, in case the Emperor checked on my progress. He also taught me the ways of the Jedi. He told me that one day I would be a wonderful Jedi. He made me promise never to turn bad, like he did.
He was reunited with the child he thought was unborn. It turned out his wife was not killed by him immediately, but actually died after giving birth to their children. She had twins. Anyways, he had to go confront his son, to turn him to the Dark Side," Kaetara was out of breath.
"Twins? He wanted to turn his son? Did he succeed?" Padme seemed anxious. A waitress brought them their drinks. "Thank you," they said in unison.
"No," Kaetara hesitated. A tear was beginning to form in her eye. "I--I told him--I said something bad was going to happen. I had a feeling. It wasn't like the premonitions he used to have, but pretty close. I was gifted. Anyways, I didn't want him to leave. I told him not to go. And where most parents would say, 'Don't worry, daddy's coming home,' he said, 'Be brave and let daddy go.' So I did. I would do anything for him. I stayed in the castle the Emperor built for us, and I prayed, and I wished, and I hoped with all my heart that he would come back home safe. I hoped for 9 years."
Padme gasped. "That's awful!"
"Yeah, but after about 3 years, I decided to do something with my time. I began gambling. I was very good. I did it all from the castle, though, over viewscreens and holograms. Finally, I lost to someone. This was 6 years later. When he said that he was going to take the wife and kids out for a nice dinner with the money he won, I realized I needed a family. I decided to stop gambling and go to an orphanage. I gave him the money in person. He worked at this very diner, actually. And when I got here to give him the money, Anakin's spirit was here with his kids, who were all grown up, and their kids, who were very young, younger than me. That's how we were reunited. As he told it to me, Luke, his son, turned him back to Anakin Skywalker. And then he killed the Emperor."
"So he really was the Chosen one after all," Padme said quietly. "He fulfilled the prophecy and brought balance to the Force."
"Yeah," Kaetara said.
"Can you...can you take me to him?" Padme pleaded.
"Yeah," Kaetara said again. By now they had finished their drinks. "You wanna go now?"
Padme nodded. They left their money on the table and walked back to Kaetara's airspeeder. They talked about anything and everything on the ride home. Kaetara landed the airspeeder on one of the many hangar bays of the Temple and they both got out.
"I never got to ask you how you know him," Kaetara said. Padme was about to answer when C3-P0 and R2-D2 came through the door onto the hangar bay. R2 gave a happy whistle.
"ARTOO!!!" Padme exclaimed. "THREEPIO!!!" She rushed over and hugged Artoo, but Threepio seemed confused.
"Hello, I am See Threepio, human cyborg relations. And you are?"
"Threepio, it's me, Padme!" He didn't respond. Artoo made a series of beeps at him.
"What do you mean, mind wiped? I haven't--" Artoo had attatched a suction cup to Threepio's leg and was dragging him back inside. Padme and Kaetara stared after them, puzzled.
"How do you know Artoo and Threepio?" Kaetara asked. They walked through the doors as well and began walking down the stairs to the main level.
"They served during the Clone Wars," Padme said simply. They reached the main level and Kaetara led Padme to a meditation chamber.
"I think he's in here," Kaetara said. "He was here when I left, and he's been meditating a lot lately. He's upset because he feels his wife's presence and he feels like she will come back to him, but he knows he has been wrong before. He doesn't want to get his hopes up. Anyways.." she trailed off. Then she knocked on the door.
"Come in," an all-too-familiar voice said on the other side. Kaetara pressed a button on the wall and the door slid open. And there he was, sitting on a cushion, looking all too gorgeous, with his eyes closed, facing the wall next to the door.
"Anakin..." Padme said. He opened his eyes and looked at her.
And for a moment, he just stared. It was a very long moment. Then tears filled his eyes, and his face looked so pained that it broke Padme's heart. She walked over and knelt beside him.
"I'm so sorry," he said. "I thought...I thought I could save you. I don't know why I did it. It was awful of me. I changed back though, I did. I am so sorry. I love you."
Padme stood and he stood and he wrapped his arms around her. "I've missed you so much. I am a better person now, really. The Dark Side is a powerful thing but I will never go back," he said.
"I know," Padme said. And then they kissed, and it was so pure and gentle that Kaetara almost cried. So Padme was his wife, Luke and Leia's mother.
