Anakin Skywalker and Harry Potter are the angstiest people I know...so...here. This isn't exactly about angst, but it fits right under that category.
The Council doesn't trust me. What did I ever do? They brought me here. It's not my fault. But...I do want more power. And I don't know why. I wish...I want to be normal. A normal Jedi, and no war. This war is causing everything to go wrong.
Anakin Skywalker was thinking. Padme lay quietly beside him. He could feel that she was awake, but he didn't sat anything to her. He knew what she would say. You're doing just fine, they trust you, it's all in your head, it's okay. She didn't get that there were certain rules...certain guidelines...that he had already broken, "and he was breaking...and now the Council was breaking them too. When they asked him to spy on the Chancellor, he had been so angry. But he could not disobey.
The Chancellor had been his mentor ever since he arrived on Coruscant. The Jedi Council didn't trust him, especially since he appointed Anakin to the Council.
Padme rolled over. "Anakin?" she murmered. "Are you awake?"
"Yes," he replied. "What is it?"
"I...oh, never mind. It was just...I remembered something, but I already told you..." she trailed off, tired. She couldn't tell Anakin about the secret meetings she was having with other senators to overthrow the Chancellor. He was too close with him.

"Obi-Wan has reported that Utapau is indeed being held hostage. The Separatists are meeting there," Commander Cody's hologram reported.
"Anakin, give this report to the Chancellor. His reaction will give us clues as to his intentions," Master Mace Windu said.
"Yes, Master," Anakin obediently replied, and left the room. His head whirled as he headed towards the Chancellor's office. When he got there and told the Chancellor, he merely wondered if Obi-Was was up to the challenge.
He told Anakin that one day he would be more powerful than he could control. He told Anakin to learn the Dark Side.
"How do you know the Dark Side?" Anakin asked, taken aback.
"My mentor taught me all about the Force," he said wisely. He begged Anakin to use his knowledge.
"You're the Sith Lord?" Anakin ignited his lightsaber.
"Are you going to kill me?" Chancellor Palpatine asked calmly.
"I certainly would like to," Anakin said through gritted teeth.
How can this be happening? My mentor, my friend. But I have a feeling. If I don't kill him now...I can save Padme. There will be war. Padme. War. Padme said she won't die, and yet I saw it. War is inevitable.
Anakin was behind the Chancellor and the Chancellor appeared to be unarmed. It was against the Jedi way, but he had to. He raised his lightsaber and brought it down. The Chancellor fell to the floor. Anakin fell to his knees beside the Chancellor and cried.
He cried because he couldn't save Padme. He cried for the loss of his friend. He cried for the trouble he would be in. He cried for his lost childhood. He cried for his mother.
It was dark when Obi-Wan, Mace, and Padme came rushing into the office. He had no idea how long he had been there, crying, but he felt like he could use a lot more time.
"You...what have you done??" Mace demanded.
"Anakin, why did you do this?" Obi-Wan asked.
Anakin didn't look at either of them. He only saw Padme. Soon, she would be dead. All his fault.
"All my fault," he managed to stutter. What was she doing here anyway, it would be a dead giveaway about who the father was.
Padme noted his tear stained face. "What happened, Ani?" she said softly.
"He's the Sith. I was going to report him, but...I knew that...I could feel it in the Force, it wouldn't end. I-" he choked on the last part of the sentence. Padme knelt down beside him (with a bit of difficulty because of her pregnant belly) and placed her hand on his back.
"Chancellor Palpatine was the Sith Lord?" Mace asked, incredulous. Anakin nodded. With that, Mace and Obi-Wan left the room to conference about this.
"Anakin, you did the right thing," Padme said gently, rubbing his back. "Nobody trusted him. He was too dangerous to be kept alive."
Anakin wrapped his arms around her and she rocked him back and forth. She was just relieved that her plotting with the other Senators could end. No more secrecy.
Obi-Wan was recalling what Count Dooku said about the Senate being in the control of a Sith Lord.
Anakin was crying.
The Senate was confused.
Anakin stopped crying (after a while).
The Chancellor was gone forever.

Epilogue:
What would have happened:
The Chancellor would have gone on to be come the Emperor and Anakin would have been his apprentice. He would be known as Darth Vader. He would have strangled Padme and broken her heart, causing her to die in childbirth. He would have fought Obi-Wan in the Duel of the Fates, losing all his limbs. The Clones would have destroyed all the Jedi except Obi-Wan and Yoda. Luke (Anakin and Padme's baby) would have gone to live with Owen and Beru Lars, his aunt and uncle. Leia (Luke's twin sister) would have gone to live with Bail Organa and his wife, and she would have been Princess of Alderaan. Darth Vader would kill Obi-Wan. Luke and Leia would have been reunited and later find out that Darth Vader was their father. Luke would change Darth Vader back into Anakin. But it would be too late, and Anakin would die. However, he would learn the path to immortality from Qui-Gon Jin.
What did happen:
The Empire was never created. Another senator took over as Chancellor, but did not take any extra powers. Padme did not die, and she had their twins on Naboo. Then they went to Coruscant for the children's Jedi training. They went back to Naboo whenever possible. Obi-Wan remained a close friend of the family until he died at an old age, his life not cut short. The Jedi remained keepers of the peace across the galaxy.
