--This is if Ti Moune never died, btw.--
Ti Moune sat in the passenger seat of Daniel's Mercades, the window rolled down. She let the wind blow her long brown hair into a mane around her face. She looked over at Daniel. He drove with ease, as though he had been doing it his whole life. Ti Moune felt so at home in this car, though she used to marvel at the thought of cars!
They were headed to meet Ti Moune's family. When Daniel had been injured in a car crash a year earlier, he had stayed on her mat, and she had tended him. He was unconscious, so for the most part, her parents didn't know him.
Daniel had married Andrea, and Ti Moune had been heartbroken. But she had waited. She should have died for lack of food, water, and sleep. But she didn't. Her love kept her alive. And soon, Daniel began speaking to her through the Hotel Gates in the dark night. He told her he still loved her. He told her he wished he could go away with her and they could have children, a garden....and a tree....
Eventually, he realized he needed Ti Moune during the day as well as in the night. He hired her as a maid in the Hotel Beauxhomme. Andrea was not happy about it. And really, she had no reason to be happy about it, for it was obvious the feelings Ti Moune had for Daniel were mutual. Finally, Daniel and Ti Moune gave up trying to hide it, and Daniel divorced Andrea and married Ti Moune. His father was angry, but Daniel did not care. He was with the one he loved.
So now, after a year, Ti Moune decided that Daniel should meet her parents. As they neared the village, Daniel grew nervous. What if the don't like me? he thought.
He pulled up next to Ti Moune's hut and stalled before getting out of the car. Ti Moune stepped out and opened is door for him. "Come on, slow poke!" Ti Moune said. Daniel laughed and got out. Ti Moune took his hand and led him into her hut.
"Mama, Tonton, I'm home!"
Mama Euralie and Tonton Julian ran to the door and scooped Ti Moune up in their arms. When they were finished greeting Ti Moune, they moved to Daniel. Ti Moune had told him to dress more casual than his usual white tuxedo, so today he donned a white polo shirt, khakis, and white sandals. He also wore the charm Ti Moune had given him around his neck, along with white fedora, which he now took off his head and bowed lightly to Ti Moune's parents.
Julian grasped Daniel's hand firmly and clapped him on the back. "Nice to meet you, son," he said in his most welcoming voice.
Euralie embraced him and said, "You seem wonderful for our Ti Moune."
They had a simple dinner of rice and red beans grown in their garden and there was lots of friendly, pleasant talk. After dinner, Ti Moune and Daniel went for a walk on the beach.
"They like you," she said, smiling and giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
"And I like them...and you," Daniel said. Then he swept her off her feet and kissed her.
