Valentine
Song is by Martina McBride – characters belong to JKR.
Dedicated to Diana Hawthorne (Sarah). No idea why. It just is.
If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you
The sun shone over the hill and crested the tips of the ridge, shinning onto the grounds. Beams of light shone on the numerous rows of chairs and glimmered on the tear-stained cheeks of the people. But one face looked towards the sky, away from the people; longing and sadness reflected in their eyes.
If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I'd still feel for you
Minerva Dumbledore watched at the sun’s rays sank, perpendicular to the highest turret in the Gryffindor Tower. Even though the service had ended moments ago, she ignored the people rising around her.
And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine
A few students glanced her way, knowing she was now, in their eyes, their new Headmistress, therefore, they should turn to her to ask questions.
All of my life
I have been waiting for
All you give to me
She ignored the worried glances; from students, Ministry workers, and staff members; keeping her eyes fixed on the sun, high in the summer sky. Some, Minerva noticed, held their hands to their mouths and whispered to each other, glancing between her and the front of the lawn, nearest to the lake’s edge.
You've opened my eyes
And showed me how to love unselfishly
They had been married only twenty years, and for any one, that would seem such a short marriage. But for them, of the fifty-two years they’d known each other, only twenty had been spent in marriage. Although, a year before their marriage, she had given birth to a daughter, Emmaline Leann Dumbledore, who now, sat besides the lake’s edge, tracing her finger in the water. Emmaline continued to glance at her month, concern in her bright green eyes.
I've dreamed of this a thousand times before
But in my dreams I couldn't love you more
I will give you my heart
Until the end of time...
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine
Trying to hold back her tears, and years of pent up stress from keeping their marriage a secret, Minerva closed her eyes and stared at the lake’s edge, where Emmaline had risen. She leaned back and tried to settle in the plastic chair, but instead she rose, trying to hide the few tears that were beginning to slide down her cheeks.
And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
'Cause all I need is you, my Valentine
About halfway up the lawn, Minerva felt more hot tears slip down her cheeks and she gathered her robe tightly around her, running towards a small, partly concealed door in the side of the building nearest to the Herbology wing. Inside the small space, she pressed her hand against a wall and a panel in the wall slid open, revealing a dark, narrow staircase.
She ascended it quickly, and at the top, pushed open the door at the top. She curled up on the large bed in the center of the room, and stared at the hooked rug besides the bed. After a few moments, Minerva curled up under the covers and sighed.
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine
There, she did something she hadn’t done in twenty-five years. Minerva cried.
AN: Please read and review. I probably will be sick when I wake up since I stayed up half the night to write it.
