Here's my submission for challenge #103 on the ADMM boards. The story is entitled “Boo”. Also, I don't own The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.
The lights were completely down and only the firelight in the corner of the room was left. She sat, curled in an armchair, her stocking feet sticking out from under a woolen blanket Her eyes skimmed across the page, taking in each word. All was silent except for the occasional crackling of the fire at her feet.
As she turned the page, a loud clap sounded behind her. Jumping, Minerva spun around, ward at the ready, and wobbled slightly. Reaching for her, Albus wrapped an arm around her waist and leaned forwards, kissing her cheek gently. “Don't worry, it's just me.” He whispered, pulling the fallen blanket around her shoulders. Tentatively, she reached up and when their lips were a mere centimeter apart, she closed her eyes.
“Minerva!” There was a bang at the door and it swung open, revealing a rather tired looking Xiomara Hooch. The woman in question rose, slowly, stretching out each limb as she turned towards her friend. Blinking, she tried to recall her dream, it had been wonderful – though she just didn't know what it was about.
Even a week later, Minerva still couldn't recall her dream since Xiomara had disturbed her sleep that night. For hours, she had lain awake in her bed, eyes closed, trying to recall her dream. Eventually, she gave up, deciding that if she couldn't remember it then it must not be important to her in anyway.
Now, she kicked off her shoes, and curled up in her favorite armchair by the fire. Pulling a shawl, a gift form Albus a few years ago, she cracked open her latest find in novels. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, by Muriel Spark, had, in less than a week, become her favorite book. Already, she had read it twenty times, and was rereading it for her twenty-first time that night. She opened the book, and began to read, leaving her tea to turn cold after a few pages.
Unknown to her, someone had entered Minerva's chambers and stood in the shadows, watching her quietly. Albus stood in the shadows of Minerva's bathroom door, which remained ajar, his eyes focused on the witch who was curled in the armchair. Moving forwards, he bent so his beard brushed the back of her chair.
“Minerva,” he whispered in her ear.
The effect was immediate. A dull thud sounded as her book landed at her feet, narrowly missing the fire grate. In seconds, Albus found himself reaching forwards as Minerva wobbled, losing her balance. Her head was about three centimeters from the wooden table besides her chair when he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her upright.
A flash of recognition made Minerva blink rapidly, and she blanched, this almost fit the dream. Now she remembered it! Albus smiled, kissing her cheek, and her face paled more.
“Minerva?” Albus sounded worried, “Are you alright?” His arms tightened around her waist, as if he imagined that she was going to faint. She nodded, a sly smile spreading across her lips.
“Just one thing,” she whispered, resting her hands on his chest, smiling seductively up at him.
“What?” Albus looked worried.
“This,” Minerva whispered, her lips brushing against his. Albus responded, deepening her kiss and lifting her off her feet. His fingers tangled themselves in her hair and he smiled against her lips.
“That's what your dream was about?” Albus sounded horrified, “Well, let's make sure that you have more dreams like that.” He added, capturing Minerva's lips in a second, passionate kiss.
